Every bottle of water carries an invisible fingerprint: its pH, its oxidation-reduction potential, and its total dissolved solids. Together these three numbers tell you far more about what you're drinking than taste alone ever could.
pH measures how acidic or alkaline water is on a scale of 0 to 14. Most municipal tap water sits close to neutral, while heavily filtered or reverse-osmosis water often drifts slightly acidic once it loses its natural mineral buffer.
ORP, or oxidation-reduction potential, tells you whether a liquid is more likely to donate electrons (antioxidant, negative ORP) or accept them (oxidizing, positive ORP). Alkaline water is typically measured with a negative ORP reading.
TDS captures the minerals suspended in the water — calcium, magnesium, potassium, and more. A very low TDS reading usually means a highly filtered, mineral-stripped water, while a moderate reading suggests those minerals are still present.
None of these numbers alone tells the whole story, but read together they explain why two glasses of "clear water" can feel completely different once you actually drink them.
